Southeast

Val di Noto

The Southeast is a territory that offers the opportunity of a trip back in time among Greek temples and Roman amphitheatres, Christian churches and Byzantine necropolises, where you can visit palaces of the houses of Swabia and Aragon and walk among Arabic alleys and courtyards, but above all admire the zenith and the final flourishing of Baroque art in Europe.

Eight municipalities of the Val di Noto were placed in 2002 on the Unesco list of World Heritage Sites precisely on account of their “exceptional testimony to the art and architecture of the late Baroque period” and their “homogeneity resulting from the reconstruction of all these cities after the earthquake of 1693”.
